A business card is your brand in physical form. It is often the first tangible piece of your company someone holds. Make it count.

Design Principles for Business Cards

  • Keep it clean: White space is your friend. Do not fill every square inch.
  • Readable fonts: Minimum 8pt for contact details. Test readability before printing.
  • High contrast: Dark text on light background (or vice versa). Avoid light gray text.
  • Brand consistency: Use your brand colors, fonts, and logo exactly as defined in your brand guidelines.
  • Quality stock: 16pt or thicker cardstock. Matte or soft-touch finish feels premium. Avoid thin, flimsy paper.

Modern Business Card Ideas

  • QR code: Link to your website, portfolio, or digital business card. Bridges physical and digital.
  • Rounded corners: Subtle difference that makes your card stand out in a stack.
  • Spot UV coating: Glossy accent on specific elements (like your logo) against a matte background.
  • Dual-sided printing: Front for essential info, back for a brief service list or memorable image.

Printing Tips

  • Always order a proof before a full print run
  • Use CMYK color mode for print-ready files (not RGB)
  • Include bleed area (1/8 inch beyond the trim line)
  • Request a sample of the paper stock before committing
