CDN Setup with Cloudflare: Speeding Up Your Business Website

If your web server is in Michigan and a visitor is in California, data has to travel 2,000+ miles. A CDN eliminates this distance by serving your content from the nearest data center to each visitor.

What Cloudflare Does

• SSL: Free SSL certificate with automatic renewal
• Minification: Automatically minifies CSS, JavaScript, and HTML
• Caching: Configurable caching rules to reduce server load
• Analytics: Traffic data including threats blocked and bandwidth saved

Setup Steps

1. Create a free Cloudflare account
2. Add your domain
3. Cloudflare scans your existing DNS records
4. Change your nameservers to Cloudflare (at your domain registrar)
5. Configure caching rules and SSL settings
6. Verify everything works

The entire setup takes 15-30 minutes. DNS propagation may take a few hours.

Recommended Settings

• SSL mode: Full (Strict) if your origin has a valid SSL
• Always Use HTTPS: On
• Automatic HTTPS Rewrites: On
• Browser Cache TTL: Respect Existing Headers
• Caching Level: Standard
• Auto Minify: CSS, JavaScript, HTML all enabled
