Your website copy is your 24/7 salesperson. It needs to do in text what a great salesperson does in conversation: understand the customer problem, present the solution, build trust, and ask for the sale.
Principles of Persuasive Web Copy
Lead with Benefits
"We build websites" is a feature. "Get a website that brings you customers" is a benefit. Every claim should answer the reader question: "What is in it for me?"
Use Customer Language
Write the way your customers talk, not the way your industry talks. If customers say "get more customers" instead of "increase customer acquisition," use their words.
Address Objections
Every reader has doubts. "Is this worth the money?" "Will this work for my business?" "What if I am not satisfied?" Address these directly in your copy.
Include Social Proof
Testimonials, review counts, client logos, case study results. People trust other customers more than marketing claims.
Create Clear CTAs
Tell readers exactly what to do next. "Get Your Free Quote" is stronger than "Learn More." Every section should guide toward action.
Common Copywriting Mistakes
- Talking about yourself instead of the customer
- Using jargon that customers do not understand
- Walls of text with no visual breaks
- Vague claims without specifics or proof
- Missing or weak calls to action
