Arlington Heights is one of the largest suburbs northwest of Chicago, about 25 miles from downtown in Cook County. For most of a century it was defined by the Arlington Park thoroughbred racetrack; today that 326-acre site sits at the center of the Chicago Bears' long-running stadium saga. It pairs a booming downtown of condos and restaurants with the largest Japanese marketplace in the Midwest.

Cook County, its county, was incorporated in 1831 and named for early Illinois statesman Daniel Pope Cook.
