Web Design for Baldwin Park, California

Baldwin Park is a densely populated, largely working-class Latino and Asian city in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County. Its claim to fame is national: In-N-Out Burger opened its very first stand here in 1948, California's first drive-thru, and the chain is now moving its corporate headquarters back to town. Once vineyard and cattle country, it grew into an industrial and manufacturing center after incorporating in 1956.

AppWT works with Baldwin Park, CA businesses from Livonia, Michigan, mostly online and travelling as needed.

About Baldwin Park

Also known as. The Hub of the San Gabriel Valley (city motto). Vineland (original 1860s name). Birthplace of In-N-Out Burger.

History. The area began as San Gabriel Mission grazing land and part of the Mexican-era Rancho La Puente and Rancho Azusa de Dalton. The community was known as Vineland in 1860 and had its first schoolhouse built in 1884; by 1906 it took the name Baldwin Park after land baron Elias J. 'Lucky' Baldwin. Baldwin Park incorporated on January 25, 1956, becoming California's 47th incorporated city, and first appeared as a city in the 1960 U.S. Census. On October 22, 1948, Harry and Esther Snyder opened the first In-N-Out Burger in Baldwin Park, California's first drive-thru hamburger stand.

Local economy. Baldwin Park's industrial base is manufacturing-heavy, spanning food processing, machinery, and electronic components, aided by its central San Gabriel Valley location near freeways. In-N-Out Burger's roots and corporate footprint run through the city: its company store, the 'In-N-Out University' training center, and its first meatpacking plant sit on Hamburger Lane, and in 2025 the company announced it will move its headquarters from Irvine back to Baldwin Park by 2029. Top employers include the Baldwin Park Unified School District (about 1,975 employees), the city government, Walmart, Durham School Services, and Waste Management. The 2019-2023 U.S. Census figures put the city's median household income around $79,087.

Culture and community. Baldwin Park is heavily Latino (about 74 percent) with a large Asian population (about 20 percent); roughly 60 percent of residents speak Spanish at home, shaping a strong Mexican and Latino food and community culture. The Metrolink station hosts 'Danzas Indigenas,' a 1993 public artwork by muralist Judy Baca that became a flashpoint in a 2005 immigration protest by the group Save Our State. Notable people from Baldwin Park include drag performer and makeup artist Sutan Amrull (Raja), MLB pitcher Mike Munoz, and NFL cornerback Darren Hall.

What makes Baldwin Park distinct. In-N-Out uses the address 'Hamburger Lane' for its Baldwin Park operations, a nod to the city as its birthplace. In the 1950s the Vias Turkey Ranch operated near what is now the 10 Freeway, complete with a large outdoor aviary of exotic birds before relocating to Apple Valley. Despite being one of the most populous cities in Los Angeles County by 1950, Baldwin Park packs its residents into under seven square miles, giving it a density above 10,000 people per square mile.
