Web Design for Blaine, Minnesota
Blaine is a fast-growing northern suburb of Minneapolis-Saint Paul that transformed from dairy and sod farms into one of Minnesota's largest cities. It is best known as home to the National Sports Center, billed as the world's largest amateur sports complex, and to TPC Twin Cities, host of the PGA Tour's 3M Open. Named for a Maine senator who never lived there, Blaine pairs a AAA-rated suburban economy with a genuine identity as an amateur-sports capital.

About Blaine
Also known as. Blainers (the demonym for residents).
History. Greenberry Chambers, a formerly enslaved man from Barren County, Kentucky, became the first permanent resident in 1865. Organized as a township in 1877 when it separated from Anoka, with Moses Ripley elected first chairman of the Board of Supervisors. Named in honor of James G. Blaine, a U.S. Senator from Maine and three-time presidential contender, at the urging of Ripley, who had come from Maine. Sandy soil and wetlands long discouraged farming and kept the area a hunting ground; dairy, vegetable, and sod farms later gave way to postwar housing after Blaine incorporated as a city on January 29, 1954. Explosive growth followed highway access, rising from about 1,694 residents in 1950 to over 70,000 by the 2020 Census.
Local economy. Blaine holds a rare AAA bond rating, reflecting strong local finances, and has attracted major corporate residents. Top employers include Aveda Corporation (about 700 employees), whose 58-acre headquarters and manufacturing campus moved to Blaine in 1991, and Infinite Campus, the largest American-owned K-12 student information systems firm, founded in 1993. Other significant employers include Cub Foods, Carley Foundry, Dayton Rogers Manufacturing, and the National Sports Center. Interstate 35W and Highways 10 and 65 gave Blaine the accessibility that fueled its corporate and residential growth.
Culture and community. TPC Twin Cities hosts the 3M Open, an annual PGA Tour golf tournament. The National Sports Center has hosted top-flight and amateur soccer, including former homes of the Minnesota Thunder and Minnesota United FC, on its 50-plus outdoor fields. Blaine High School is a nationally noted hockey pipeline, producing NHL players such as Nick Bjugstad and Riley Tufte. The city is a venue for the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games.
What makes Blaine distinct. Blaine is named after a man, Senator James G. Blaine of Maine, who is not recorded as ever having lived in the city. The community's first permanent resident, Greenberry Chambers, was a man who had been born into slavery in Kentucky. In the early 1900s Blaine was known for one of the most challenging mail routes in the United States, earning the route the nickname 'The Route of Single Footing.' Its Super Rink's eight sheets of ice make it the largest facility of its kind on Earth.
