Web Design for Bossier City, Louisiana
Bossier City sits on the east bank of the Red River, directly across from Shreveport, and blends a Deep South casino-and-riverboat entertainment strip with the hard power of Barksdale Air Force Base. It grew from a cotton-landing plantation into a railroad town, an oil-boom town, and now a gaming, military, and cyber-technology center. Cajun food, Southern hospitality, and Air Force Global Strike Command all share the same zip codes.

About Bossier City
Also known as. The Fastest Growing City in Louisiana (a designation the city earned by 1950). Half of the "Shreveport-Bossier" metro (the Ark-La-Tex hub on the Red River). Formerly "Bennett's Bluff" and "Cane City" before its 1907 renaming.
History. The area began as the plantation Elysian Grove, purchased in the 1830s by James Cane and his wife Mary; the settlement was then known as Bennett's Bluff. In the 1840s the site was a major overland waypoint west, with reports of more than 200 wagons a week passing through. Bossier Parish was carved out east of the Red River in 1843 and named for Pierre Evariste Jean Baptiste Bossier, a Creole general, cotton planter, and later U.S. Congressman. Around 1907 the community of Cane City was incorporated as a village and renamed Bossier City. The 1908 discovery of crude oil to the south pulled Bossier City into the national oil boom, its river-and-rail location making it an oil-patch hub. Barksdale Field was established in 1933 and later became Barksdale Air Force Base, permanently reshaping the city's economy and identity. By 1950 the city had earned the title "The Fastest Growing City in Louisiana."
Local economy. Barksdale Air Force Base is the anchor employer, home to the 2nd Bomb Wing and headquarters of Air Force Global Strike Command. Casino gaming and tourism line the Red River, including Margaritaville Resort Casino (1,200+ slots and 54 table games) and other riverboat-era properties. The National Cyber Research Park, anchored by the Cyber Innovation Center (opened 2008), represents roughly a $107 million public investment across 3,000 zoned acres. General Dynamics Information Technology's Bossier City headquarters and a Bossier Parish Community College STEM building sit within the research park. The economy layered over a century: cotton-exporting river landing, then railroad town, then oil-boom town, then airbase and gaming city. Retail and hospitality cluster at the Louisiana Boardwalk Outlets and the redeveloped downtown East Bank District.
Culture and community. Authentic Cajun cuisine and music with a small-town, Southern-hospitality feel. Casino entertainment halls host live music and comedy, including Margaritaville's performance venue and 5 o'Clock Somewhere Bar. The Louisiana Boardwalk is an open-air shopping and entertainment district on the riverfront. The East Bank District downtown has been redeveloped into a walkable entertainment zone. Brookshire Grocery Arena (formerly CenturyLink/CenturyTel Center), a 14,000-seat venue opened in 2000, draws concerts and family events. Pro hockey came to the Deep South here: the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs (CHL) played at the arena from 2000 through 2010-11.
What makes Bossier City distinct. Barksdale AFB makes this mid-size Louisiana city the headquarters of Air Force Global Strike Command, which oversees the nation's nuclear-capable bombers and ICBMs. The arena that opened in 2000 was financed in part with revenue from the city's casinos. Bossier City hosted professional ice hockey (the Mudbugs) for over a decade, an unusual fixture for the Gulf South. The famous Independence Bowl and Independence Stadium are actually across the river in Shreveport, not in Bossier City, though the two share one metro identity. The city literally began as a plantation named Elysian Grove and passed through the names Bennett's Bluff and Cane City before becoming Bossier City.
