Web Design for Brentwood, California
Brentwood sits at the far eastern edge of Contra Costa County, where the Bay Area meets the San Joaquin Delta farmland. Long a cherry-and-sweet-corn farm town built on pioneer John Marsh's old Mexican land grant, it now calls itself the U-Pick Capital of Northern California, with more than 50 pick-your-own orchards. Since 1990 it has swung from farm town to fast-growing bedroom suburb, nearly quadrupling its population between 2000 and 2022.

About Brentwood
Also known as. U-Pick Capital of Northern California.
History. Brentwood stands on Rancho Los Meganos, a Mexican land grant given to Jose Noriega in 1835. Pioneer John Marsh acquired the rancho in 1837; his published letters praising California's farmland helped draw American settlers west. The town took its name from Brentwood in Essex, England, Marsh's ancestral home. Its first post office opened in 1878. Brentwood incorporated as a city on January 21, 1948.
Local economy. Agriculture remains the local identity: cherries, sweet corn, peaches, and apricots, grown across more than 50 U-pick orchards, with G&S Farms among the best known. Local wineries such as Hannah Nicole have won medals at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. Brentwood has become a bedroom community for commuters to San Francisco and Silicon Valley, growing 287% from 23,302 residents in 2000 to about 66,854 in 2022. Top employers include the Brentwood Union and Liberty Union school districts, the City of Brentwood, Home Depot, and Safeway.
Culture and community. The Brentwood CornFest, held each July at Oak Street and Second, features sweet-corn cooking contests, a vintage car show, fireworks, and live music. Cherry U-pick season runs roughly early May through mid-June and draws Bay Area families to the orchards. The Art, Wine, and Jazz Festival takes place downtown in late August, featuring local vintners and brewers. 'Harvest Time in Brentwood' publishes farm-tour routes that guide visitors to the U-pick orchards and roadside stands.
What makes Brentwood distinct. Brentwood's original water tower no longer holds water; it now serves as a cell-phone tower. The city was named a Playful City USA in 2010, one of only three such cities in Northern California at the time. John Marsh, the town's founding landholder, was among the wealthiest men in early California and pushed for the region's independence from Mexico.
