Brockton is a mid-sized Plymouth County city 25 miles south of Boston that once made more shoes than anywhere else on Earth, then reinvented itself as the 'City of Champions' behind undefeated heavyweight Rocky Marciano and middleweight great Marvin Hagler. Today it is one of New England's most diverse cities, anchored by the largest Cape Verdean American community in the United States, and in 2020 became the first New England city with a majority-Black population.
