Web Design for Caldwell, Idaho
Caldwell is the county seat of Canyon County and Idaho's fifth-most-populous city, sitting about 24 miles west of Boise in the fertile Treasure Valley. It grew up as a railroad and agricultural-processing town, and today it pairs farm country with the College of Idaho and the century-old Caldwell Night Rodeo. Downtown was reborn after the buried Indian Creek was daylighted into a walkable plaza.

About Caldwell
Also known as. The Treasure of the Valley. Treasure Valley (regional).
History. Platted in August 1883 by railroad developer Robert E. Strahorn and the Idaho and Oregon Land Improvement Company, spawned by construction of the Oregon Short Line Railroad; within four months it had roughly 600 residents, about 40 businesses, and two newspapers. Named after Alexander Caldwell, a U.S. senator from Kansas and Strahorn's business partner. The College of Idaho was founded in 1891; Canyon County was created from part of Ada County in 1892, with Caldwell as county seat. Former Idaho Governor Frank Steunenberg was assassinated by a bomb at the gate of his Caldwell home on December 30, 1905; the killer, Harry Orchard, implicated Western Federation of Miners leaders, leading to the nationally famous 'trial of the century' involving Big Bill Haywood and Clarence Darrow.
Local economy. Rooted in irrigated agriculture on the Snake River Plain, producing potatoes, sugar beets, onions, and hops, with agricultural processing a core industry. Economy has diversified toward manufacturing and retail alongside farming. The College of Idaho anchors the city as an educational center. Sits at the edge of the Sunnyslope Wine Trail in the Snake River Valley wine region.
Culture and community. Caldwell Night Rodeo, running for about a century and billed as the first rodeo in the Pacific Northwest held under the lights, draws more than 45,000 fans over seven August nights and was named Idaho's Top Large Rodeo of the Year. Winter Wonderland at Indian Creek Plaza lights downtown with over 1.5 million lights, plus ice skating, horse-drawn carriage rides, and winter markets. Indian Creek Festival, held each September since 2003, features fun runs and a tug-of-war. Home to the College of Idaho, whose campus adds a small-college arts and athletics scene.
What makes Caldwell distinct. The 1905 gate-bomb assassination of Gov. Steunenberg on a Caldwell street set off one of America's most sensational labor trials. Indian Creek ran through a downtown culvert for decades before being uncovered and turned into a signature public space. Notable people tied to Caldwell include Albertsons founder Joseph Albertson, former Governor Butch Otter, Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens, motivational speaker Jim Rohn, and musician Paul Revere.
