Web Design for Cutler Bay, Florida

Cutler Bay is a young suburban town in southern Miami-Dade County, incorporated only in 2005 and long known as Cutler Ridge. Built near the spot where Hurricane Andrew made its catastrophic 1992 landfall, it hugs the edge of Biscayne National Park and Black Point Marina, the Miami area's largest public marina. Its dated Southland Mall is now being rebuilt into a $1.5 billion mixed-use city center.

AppWT works with Cutler Bay, FL businesses from Livonia, Michigan, mostly online and travelling as needed.

About Cutler Bay

Also known as. Cutler Ridge (historic name). Ridge Rats (nickname for longtime Cutler Ridge residents). Motto: "An Excellent Place to Live, Work and Play".

History. The area was inhabited for thousands of years by the Tequesta people before European contact. It was named for Dr. William Cutler of Massachusetts, who visited around 1880 and encouraged settlement of the pioneer community of Cutler. Early residents established the first post office south of Miami and cut a trail linking Cutler to Coconut Grove that became today's Old Cutler Road. Voters incorporated the town on November 9, 2005, making it Miami-Dade County's 35th municipality. In the incorporation vote residents chose the name "Cutler Bay" over "Cutler Ridge" by a margin of 1,920 to 1,403.

Local economy. Black Point Marina, the largest public marina in the Miami area, is a key local asset. The 80-plus-acre former Southland Mall is being redeveloped as Southplace City Center, a roughly $1.5 billion, multi-phase, seven-year buildout. Plans for the redevelopment include more than 5,000 residential units, about 500,000 sq ft of retail/dining, a 60,000-sq-ft medical center, and a 150-key hotel. As a suburban town, its economy leans on retail, services, and residential growth rather than a single dominant industry.

Culture and community. The town had 45,425 residents as of the 2020 census, ranking among the more populous of the Miami urban-core municipalities. Hispanic or Latino residents make up roughly 64% of the population, and slightly more residents speak Spanish at home than English. Planned community programming at the redeveloped city center includes concerts, art festivals, farmers markets, and car shows.

What makes Cutler Bay distinct. Hurricane Andrew made landfall near Cutler Ridge in August 1992, causing near-total destruction; at roughly $25 billion it was the costliest U.S. natural disaster at the time, and the recovery helped spur the 2005 push to incorporate. Many longtime residents resisted the new "Cutler Bay" name, preferring the historic "Cutler Ridge," and old-timers were nicknamed "Ridge Rats." In 2020 the town traded away its office building in exchange for about 16 acres to develop a new park and municipal complex.

Cutler Bay is a family-oriented suburban town of about 45,000 in southern Miami-Dade County, incorporated in 2005, with single-family neighborhoods, lakes, and coastal parkland near Biscayne Bay.
