Web Design for Green Bay, Wisconsin
Green Bay is Wisconsin's oldest settlement, a former French fur-trading gateway that grew into a papermaking and meatpacking city on the bay of Lake Michigan. It is world-famous as 'Titletown, USA,' home of the community-owned Green Bay Packers and the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field, where cheesehead-wearing fans and cheese curds are matters of civic pride.

About Green Bay
Also known as. Titletown, USA. Titletown. The Frozen Tundra (Lambeau Field).
History. Home to the Menominee and Ho-Chunk peoples; French explorer Jean Nicolet arrived in 1634, and a fur-trading post was established by 1655, making Green Bay the oldest settlement in Wisconsin. The site became a gateway trade route linking the Fox, Wisconsin, and Mississippi rivers; the French built a fort at the river's mouth in 1717. Britain took control of the area after the French and Indian War (1754-63). With the railway's arrival in the 1860s, the fur trade gave way to logging, timber processing, and then papermaking. The Green Bay Packers were founded in 1919 and, since 1923, have been owned by a private nonprofit made up of their fans.
Local economy. Papermaking, the city's primary industry, plus manufacturing of papermaking machinery, furniture, and packaging. Food processing: meat, cheese and dairy products, and vegetables; the Packers were named for the city's meatpacking workers. Health care and insurance. Agriculture (dairying) and trucking, plus shipping through the Port of Green Bay. Tourism, driven heavily by the Packers and Lambeau Field.
Culture and community. The Green Bay Packers and Lambeau Field, capacity about 81,441, the only community-owned franchise in major U.S. pro sports. Cheesehead foam hats, invented in 1987 by Ralph Bruno as a self-deprecating jab that Wisconsinites turned into a badge of pride; the Packers bought maker Foamation in 2023. Game-day staples of cheese curds, giant bratwurst, beer, and tailgating. The 'Lambeau Leap' touchdown celebration, invented by safety LeRoy Butler in December 1993. Deep-freeze football lore from the 1967 Ice Bowl, played at about minus 15 degrees Fahrenheit.
What makes Green Bay distinct. Green Bay is often called the smallest city with a major U.S. pro sports team, and the Packers remain the league's only publicly, fan-owned nonprofit franchise. Rides at Bay Beach Amusement Park still cost just 25 cents each. Lambeau's 'frozen tundra' nickname was popularized by NFL Films, credited to Steve Sabol. The Packers' name comes from the Indian Packing Company, a meatpacker that sponsored the 1919 team. 'Titletown, USA' predates the Lombardi dynasty, appearing on fan signs at the 1961 NFL Championship Game.
