Web Design for Marysville, Washington

Marysville is a north Snohomish County city about five miles north of Everett, founded as an 1870s trading post next to the Tulalip Reservation and named for Maria Comeford, wife of founder James P. Comeford. Once famous for its strawberry fields, it still throws Washington's largest Strawberry Festival every June, while the neighboring Tulalip Tribes' Quil Ceda Village has become a major regional retail and casino economy.

AppWT works with Marysville, WA businesses from Livonia, Michigan, mostly online and travelling as needed.

About Marysville

Also known as. The Strawberry City.

History. Began in 1872 as a trading post; James P. Comeford and his wife Maria arrived in 1878 and lived on the Tulalip Reservation for six years while overseeing area logging camps. The town was platted in 1885 and incorporated in 1891, with Mark Swinnerton elected its first mayor. The city is named for Maria Comeford (1846-1904), wife of the founding father. Early growth leaned on logging and on steamer trade along Quil Ceda Creek and Puget Sound, with stops at the Tulalip reservation at Tulalip Bay. The area earned the 'Strawberry City' nickname in the 1920s for its abundant strawberry crop.

Local economy. Major area employers include the Marysville School District (about 1,356 workers), aerospace-parts maker C&D Zodiac (about 670), Walmart, the City of Marysville, and Fred Meyer. Boeing and Amazon anchor the broader Snohomish County job market that Marysville feeds into. The adjacent Tulalip Tribes are the fourth-largest private employer in Snohomish County; their gaming economy began with Washington's first compacted tribal casino in 1992. Quil Ceda Village, a 187-acre tribal business park along I-5, houses the Tulalip Resort Casino, an amphitheater, and Seattle Premium Outlets, drawing thousands of visitors monthly.

Culture and community. The Marysville Strawberry Festival, held since 1932, is the largest strawberry festival in Washington and draws over 100,000 visitors for a week of events and a Grand Parade in June. Comeford Park in downtown, with its Rotary-donated gazebo and a spray park added in 2014, is a civic gathering spot. The city's identity is closely tied to its Tulalip Tribes neighbors and shared Salish Sea heritage. Musician Patty Schemel (drummer for Hole) is among notable residents connected to the city.

What makes Marysville distinct. Quil Ceda Village is one of only a few federally recognized tribal municipalities in the United States, functioning as its own city-like entity on Tulalip land. The city is named after the founder's wife, Maria, rather than the founder himself. On October 24, 2014, a shooting at Marysville Pilchuck High School killed five people (including the shooter) and injured one, a tragedy that reshaped the community; a new school cafeteria opened in January 2017. Notable people tied to Marysville include former U.S. Representative Jack Metcalf, Major League pitcher Larry Christenson, and NFL quarterback Jake Luton.
