Warner Robins is a Middle Georgia city of about 80,000 people built almost entirely around Robins Air Force Base, the state's largest single-site industrial employer. Officially designated 'Georgia's International City' in 1968 for the global diversity of its military families, it grew explosively from the tiny railroad whistle-stop of Wellston after the base was approved in 1941. Residents also claim it as the birthplace of tee-ball.

About Warner Robins
Also known as. The International City. Heart City.
History. The community grew from Wellston, a Southern Railway whistle-stop in Georgia dairy-farm country, after the War Department approved a Middle Georgia air depot there in June 1941 with backing from Congressman Carl Vinson. Wellston was renamed Warner Robins to honor Brigadier General Augustine Warner Robins (1882-1940), an early Army Air Corps logistics leader called the 'father of logistics.' Incorporated as a town in 1943 and as a city in 1956. Officially designated Georgia's 'International City' in 1968 because of the diversity of its residents. The name Warner Robins is shared with no other town in the United States.
Local economy. Robins Air Force Base is the single largest industrial complex and employer in Georgia, contributing more than 25,000 military, civil-service and contractor jobs. The base hosts the Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex (WR-ALC), the worldwide manager for a range of aircraft, engines, missiles, software and avionics. Aerospace and defense contractors including Boeing, Northrop Grumman and SAIC have located major facilities in and around the city. Many residents are former military personnel who settled in the area after serving at the base.
Culture and community. Tee-ball was reportedly invented in Warner Robins in 1958 by recreation director Claude Lewis, with the first game played that March with about 20 children. The city is a youth-baseball powerhouse: it won the 2007 Little League World Series and the 2009 and 2010 Little League Softball World Series. The annual International City Festival celebrates the community's diversity. The city's motto is EDIMGIAFAD -- 'Every Day In Middle Georgia Is Armed Forces Appreciation Day.'
What makes Warner Robins distinct. Warner Robins carries two nicknames at once: 'The International City' and 'Heart City' (for its role as a hub of Middle Georgia). Its name exists nowhere else in the country, combining a general's middle and last names. The city claims to be the birthplace of tee-ball. Notable natives include former Georgia Governor and U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue and actress Victoria Principal.
