Woodhaven broke away as a village from Brownstown Township in 1961 and incorporated as a city in 1965 to protect its own community identity.
Local economy. The economy is anchored by automotive and manufacturing, led by Ford's Woodhaven Stamping Plant. The Ford plant opened in 1964, spans about 2.67 million square feet, and produces metal body panels and chassis components for Ford assembly plants; it employed roughly 487 workers as of 2025.
