Schema markup is the bridge between human-readable content and machine-readable data. Without it, search engines and AI must guess what your content means. With it, they know exactly what your business offers.
How Schema Works
Schema markup uses a vocabulary defined at schema.org to annotate your content. The most common implementation is JSON-LD (JavaScript Object Notation for Linked Data), which Google recommends.
A LocalBusiness schema tells Google: "This is a business called AppWT, located at 33300 Five Mile Rd, Livonia, MI 48154, that provides web design services, has 5-star reviews, and has been operating since 1997."
Essential Schema Types
- LocalBusiness: Business name, address, phone, hours, reviews
- Organization: Company info, social profiles, logo
- FAQPage: Frequently asked questions (appear as expandable results in Google)
- Service: Individual services with descriptions and pricing
- BreadcrumbList: Navigation path showing site structure
- Article/BlogPosting: Blog content with author, date, and category
- Product: Products with pricing, availability, and reviews
Schema and AI Visibility
AI assistants rely heavily on structured data to understand businesses. Schema markup is one of the strongest signals you can provide to AI for accurate representation. Without it, AI may miss key details about your services, location, and credentials.
AppWT implements comprehensive schema markup on every site we build. Our schema strategy covers both search engines and AI assistants. Learn about our schema implementation.
