• Platted in 1823 and named for Benjamin Franklin, the town gained a post office in 1824 and city status in 1861. They became the first high school team to take three consecutive state championships, in 1920, 1921 and 1922, followed Wagner to Franklin College, were titled national college champions in 1923, and turned down a match against the leading professional side, the New York Celtics.
