Kent sits on the Cuyahoga River on the western edge of Portage County, about 10 miles northeast of Akron.
Settled in 1805, it was known for many years as Franklin Mills.
Brady's Leap, now a city park, marks where Captain Samuel Brady is said to have jumped 21 feet across the Cuyahoga around 1780.
