History. John Goble built a hotel at the site in 1864-1865. Hiram E. Goble platted the settlement as 'Gobleville' in 1870, the same year the railroad arrived; Warren Goble added an addition two years later. Hiram Goble became first postmaster on April 16, 1872, when the post office moved from Lake Mills. Incorporated as a village in 1893; the name was shortened to 'Gobles' on April 10, 1922; incorporated as a city in 1957. On April 6, 2012, a downtown fire required 13 fire departments and destroyed buildings more than 100 years old. The town survived multiple major fires over its history yet held on as a community.
