Web Design for Hillsboro, Oregon

Hillsboro is the seat of Washington County and Oregon's fifth-largest city, a former dairy-and-orchard town on the Tualatin Plains that reinvented itself as the anchor of the "Silicon Forest." Intel's largest global manufacturing complex sits here alongside Genentech, Qorvo and Reser's Fine Foods, drawing engineers from around the world. Yet it keeps a small-town core with a historic courthouse square, a minor-league ballpark, wetlands full of birds and a walkable transit-oriented neighborhood built on an old nursery town.

AppWT works with Hillsboro, OR businesses from Livonia, Michigan, mostly online and travelling as needed.

About Hillsboro

Also known as. Silicon Forest (heart of). Sin City (historical).

History. Settlers founded a community on the Tualatin Plains in 1842; it was named for David Hill, an early Oregon politician, and its early economy relied on riverboat traffic on the Tualatin River. The city was officially incorporated in 1876. Its economy began in agriculture, especially dairy farming and fruit orchards, and the community of Orenco took its name as an acronym for the Oregon Nursery Company. The high-tech era traces to 1951, when Tektronix began building oscilloscopes just east of Hillsboro, the first seedling of the Silicon Forest.

Local economy. Hillsboro is the center of the Silicon Forest, with tens of thousands of computer- and electronics-manufacturing jobs. Intel operates its largest site here, spanning the Ronler Acres, Jones Farm and Hawthorn Farm campuses; Intel is Oregon's largest private employer with more than 20,000 area workers. Other major employers include Genentech, Qorvo and the food company Reser's Fine Foods. The city had a population of 106,447 at the 2020 census, making it the fifth-most populous in Oregon.

Culture and community. The Hillsboro Hops, a Single-A minor-league baseball team, play at the city's ballpark and are known for themed nights and fireworks. Annual events include the Hillsboro Airshow, the International Festival celebrating cultural diversity, OrenkoFest and a long-running Saturday farmers market. The area is a Tualatin Valley craft-beer destination, with breweries clustered near the city's eastern edge. An influx of engineers and scientists has given the city a blend of traditional Oregonian and global-immigrant culture.

What makes Hillsboro distinct. The neighborhood name "Orenco" is literally an acronym for the ORE-gon N-ursery CO-mpany that once operated there. Nineteenth-century Hillsboro was nicknamed "Sin City" because of the rowdy behavior around its four saloons. Hillsboro Airport handles more than 200,000 aircraft operations a year, making it the second busiest in Oregon despite the city's modest size. Intel's Hillsboro campuses form the company's largest concentration of employees anywhere in the world.
