After World War I the township grew rapidly, roughly tripling to about 6,000 residents by 1970 and evolving into a suburban community; the 2020 census recorded 23,747 residents. It sits in southwest Michigan roughly halfway between Chicago and Detroit.

A suburban township with two main commercial areas: the West Main Street corridor, which serves the western and northern parts of the county and beyond, and Stadium Drive, which serves a more local customer base.
