Web Design for Regina, Saskatchewan
Saskatchewan's capital rose from the buffalo-bone-strewn banks of Wascana Creek, once literally called 'Pile o' Bones,' into a planned prairie capital named for Queen Victoria. It is home to the RCMP's only cadet training academy, the fervent 'Rider Nation' football culture, and a man-made lake at the heart of one of North America's largest urban parks. Flat, tree-planted, and one of the sunniest cities in Canada, it blends government, agriculture, and heavy industry.

About Regina
Also known as. Queen City (Queen City of the Plains). Pile o' Bones / Pile of Bones.
History. Originally known as 'Pile of Bones,' an English translation of the Cree name 'oskana ka-asasteki' ('bones that are piled'), for the buffalo bones left on the banks of Wascana Creek. Founded in 1882 when the Canadian Pacific Railway reached the site during its push across western Canada. Renamed Regina (Latin for 'queen') after Queen Victoria by Princess Louise, wife of the Governor General of Canada. The 1885 trial of Metis leader Louis Riel was held in Regina; he was found guilty of treason and hanged on November 16, 1885. The Regina Cyclone struck on June 30, 1912, a tornado that killed 28 people and remains Canada's deadliest tornado. The Regina Riot erupted on July 1, 1935, when the Depression-era On-to-Ottawa Trek was stopped in the city, leading to a violent clash with police and the RCMP.
Local economy. As the provincial capital, the government and its Crown corporations, SaskPower, SaskTel, and Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI), are the city's largest employers. Its resource-driven private sector includes Evraz steel (western Canada's largest steel manufacturer) and the Co-op Refinery Complex, which processes crude oil. Other major players include Viterra grain handling, Mosaic potash, Brandt industrial equipment, and Bayer CropScience. Core industries span energy, food processing, and manufacturing.
Culture and community. Home to the community-owned Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL, whose devoted fans, 'Rider Nation,' serve as a province-wide cultural unifier. Also home to the Regina Pats, one of the oldest major-junior hockey franchises. Wascana Centre houses the MacKenzie Art Gallery, the Royal Saskatchewan Museum, and the Saskatchewan Science Centre. Mosaic Stadium is the modern outdoor home of the Roughriders.
What makes Regina distinct. The city's name literally means 'queen' in Latin, while its original name meant a pile of buffalo bones. It is one of the sunniest cities in Canada, averaging about 2,357 hours of sunshine per year. Wascana Lake is entirely man-made, created by damming Wascana Creek. Regina is the only location in Canada where every RCMP cadet is trained. The 1912 Regina Cyclone remains the deadliest tornado in Canadian history.
