History. Settlers arrived in the area around the 1830s, many from the Upper South, especially Tennessee. The town was founded and incorporated in 1881 when the St. Louis-San Francisco (Frisco) Railway arrived; it was named for Captain Charles W. Rogers, the railway's vice-president and general manager. In 1883 Rogers became a terminus of the Bentonville Railroad, linking it to neighboring Bentonville. The 1862 Battle of Pea Ridge, a major Civil War engagement, was fought just northeast of present-day Rogers. Population grew explosively from about 1,265 in 1890 to roughly 69,900 in 2020.

Local economy. Early economy was agricultural; poultry growing and processing became important in the 1930s and remains so, with a Tyson Foods facility in the city. Daisy Outdoor Products (Daisy air rifles) relocated its headquarters and manufacturing to Rogers from Michigan in 1958. On July 2, 1962, Sam Walton opened the first Walmart Discount City store at 719 W. Walnut Street; Walmart's corporate headquarters is in neighboring Bentonville. Major employers include the Mercy health system, Tyson Foods, Bekaert, and Glad Manufacturing. The drive-thru coffee chain 7 Brew was founded in Rogers, opening its first location there.
