History. Settled in the early 19th century as farm and orchard country within Erin Township. A post office was established in 1840 by William Rose, who, per the city's history, named it "Roseville" in honor of his father, War of 1812 veteran Dennison Rose; a popular folk account instead credits the wild roses that grew across the land.
