Web Design for South Jordan, Utah

A fast-growing suburb in the southwest Salt Lake Valley, South Jordan transformed from a 19th-century Mormon farming town into a Silicon Slopes tech and medical-device hub. It is best known for Daybreak, a massive master-planned community built on reclaimed land from the historic Bingham Canyon copper mine, and for being the first city on Earth with two Latter-day Saint temples. In 2025 it gained a new marquee attraction when the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees moved into a new ballpark in Downtown Daybreak.

AppWT works with South Jordan, UT businesses from Livonia, Michigan, mostly online and travelling as needed.

About South Jordan

Also known as. SoJo.

History. Founded in 1859 by settlers of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and long an agrarian farming community. Urbanization gradually turned it into a bedroom community of Salt Lake City; by 1992 land devoted to farming had fallen sharply. Rio Tinto established Kennecott Land in 2001 to develop surplus mining property, and in 2004 it launched the Daybreak master-planned community on the former Bingham Canyon Mine site. Population surged in the 21st century to roughly 77,000 residents, driven by planned development and tech-corridor growth.

Local economy. Merit Medical Systems, a maker of medical devices for cardiology and radiology, is the largest employer with more than 2,000 Utah-based workers. Other major employers include dental-products maker Ultradent Products and Morgan Stanley's services group. Rio Tinto's Kennecott operations are headquartered in the city, tying it to the nearby Bingham Canyon Mine, one of the world's largest open-pit copper mines. A key node in Utah's "Silicon Slopes" tech corridor, blending medical manufacturing, finance, and technology.

Culture and community. SoJo Summerfest is the city's signature community festival, with summer concerts and events. The Triple-A Salt Lake Bees baseball team began play in 2025 at The Ballpark at America First Square, an 8,000-seat privately funded stadium anchoring Downtown Daybreak. Downtown Daybreak is billed as Utah's first dedicated sports and entertainment district, with an amphitheater, cinema, and library branch planned or built. Family recreation destinations include Mulligans Golf and Games and Airborne Trampoline Park.

What makes South Jordan distinct. South Jordan was the world's first city to have two Latter-day Saint temples at once, pairing the Oquirrh Mountain Temple with the earlier Jordan River Temple. The entire Daybreak community rose from reclaimed land at the former Bingham Canyon Mine, where copper, gold, and silver were once extracted. Daybreak was the first community of its size in the region to build all homes to Energy Star certification, with sustainability designed in from the start. The Utah Transit Authority TRAX Red Line runs directly into Daybreak, an unusual amount of light-rail service for a suburban master-planned community.
