About Boca Raton, Florida
Boca Raton is an affluent coastal city in Palm Beach County whose Spanish name literally translates to 'mouse's mouth,' a nautical reference to rugged rocks in a harbor. Shaped in the 1920s by flamboyant society architect Addison Mizner's Mediterranean Revival vision and later by IBM, which built the first IBM PC here in 1981, the city pairs pink-hued resort glamour with strict development codes that keep it free of billboards. Today it is a South Florida hub for corporate headquarters, higher education, and gated luxury.
History of Boca Raton

- Architect Addison Mizner was appointed Town Planner in 1924 and formed a development company that issued $5 million in stock in 1925, fully subscribed within a week, to build 'the foremost resort city on the North American continent.'
