History of Bloomingdale

• The settlement was originally named Meacham's Grove.
• It was served by the Chicago-Galena Highway, which is the modern Lake Street, and became an important stop for stage coaches and westward travelers.
• Originally a Cook County settlement, it was annexed by DuPage County in 1839.

• Stratford Square Mall was the largest of the village's shopping centers, an indoor mall anchored by two major department stores alongside smaller shops and restaurants. A former anchor building was demolished to make way for a Woodman's.
• Old Town Bloomingdale, at the intersection of Lake Street and Bloomingdale Road, is a collection of small businesses, restaurants and shops occupying restored buildings on the original site of the village's first settlement.

Community Life in Bloomingdale

• Elementary education is unusually divided: five districts serve parts of the village, namely Bloomingdale School District 13, Community Consolidated School District 93, Keeneyville School District 20, Marquardt School District 15 and Medinah District 11.
• Community Consolidated School District 93 is headquartered in Bloomingdale and runs two schools there, Stratford Middle School and the Early Childhood Center. Marquardt School District 15 operates Winnebago Elementary School in the village.
• High school attendance is split as well. Students in the Glenbard Township High School District 87 portion are zoned to either Glenbard East High School in Lombard or Glenbard North High School in Carol Stream, while the rest attend Lake Park High School, District 108, in Roselle.
