About Crawfordsville, Indiana
History of Crawfordsville
- In 1813 Williamson Dunn, Henry Ristine and Major Ambrose Whitlock of the U.S. Army judged the site of present-day Crawfordsville well suited to settlement, being surrounded by deciduous forest and arable land with water from a nearby creek later named Sugar Creek, a southern tributary of the Wabash River. Returning a decade later they found at least one cabin already built.
- In 1821 William and Jennie Offield built a cabin on a small creek later called Offield Creek, four miles southwest of the future town site.

The Crawfordsville Economy
- Crawfordsville is home to the world's first thin-slab casting minimill, a steel plant that recycles scrap steel using an electric arc furnace. Nucor Steel broke ground on its first sheet steel mill and first galvanizing line at its Crawfordsville facility in 1987.
- The plant was renamed LSC Communications in October 2016 when RR Donnelley & Sons separated into three companies, and the factory is now called Lakeside Book Company.
- It adds that Manpower took over as the primary employer in the city, and that in 2008 Raybestos laid off most of its workforce.
