About Adrian, Lenawee County
Adrian is the seat of Lenawee County, a former manufacturing powerhouse along the River Raisin nicknamed the Maple City for its tree-lined streets. Founded in 1826, it grew into Michigan's third-largest city by 1860 and anchored an early wire-fence industry so dominant it was called the Fence Capital of the World. Today it is a college town home to Adrian College and Siena Heights University and to the oldest operating theater in the state.
