About Comstock Park, Kent County
Comstock Park is a community of 10,500 people packed into the southeast corner of Alpine Township and the southwest corner of Plainfield Township, just north of Grand Rapids beside the Grand River. It began as a sawmill settlement on Mill Creek in 1838, went through two names before landing on its third in 1906, and today it is best known as the home of the West Michigan Whitecaps and a ballpark burger that made national television. An F5 tornado came through here in 1956, and the community still keeps the old Mill Creek name alive in its summer festival.
