About Cutlerville, Kent County

Cutlerville is an unincorporated community of 17,849 people about three miles south of Grand Rapids, split between Byron Township on the west and the smaller Gaines Township share on the east. It grew out of one family's 312-acre farm, and the mansion that family built became the seed of Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services, which still anchors the community's identity and payroll. Buck Creek runs north through it toward the Grand River, US-131 splits it top to bottom, and M-6 clips its northern edge.

History of Cutlerville

  • His son, John I. Cutler, built the Cutler mansion in 1891.
  • In 1910 the Cutler mansion became the nucleus of the Christian Psychopathic Hospital, which is today Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services.
