About Madison Heights, Michigan

Madison Heights is a 7.2-square-mile post-war suburb about 12 miles north of downtown Detroit, packed with more than 1,300 commercial and industrial businesses that sit inside a mostly single-family residential grid. Self-styled the "City of Progress," it is part of Oakland County's Automation Alley and hosts one of the largest Asian supermarkets in southeast Michigan. Nationally, it is unfortunately best known for the 2019 "green ooze" that leaked onto Interstate 696.

History of Madison Heights

  • Incorporated as a city by popular vote on January 17, 1955, and chartered on December 6 of that year, becoming the tenth city government in southern Oakland County.
  • Formed from land that had been part of Royal Oak Township, which shrank steadily between 1921 and 1950 as suburbs broke away and incorporated.
  • Born as a post-war bedroom suburb alongside neighbors Royal Oak, Warren, and Hazel Park.

  • 168 Asian Mart (largest Asian supermarket in southeast Michigan)
  • George W. Kuhn Retention and Treatment Basin (regional stormwater facility)

The Madison Heights Economy

  • Contains more than 1,300 commercial and industrial businesses within just 7.2 square miles, plus seven industrial parks totaling about 10 million square feet.
  • Corporate headquarters of Hungry Howie's Pizza.

Why AppWT for Madison Heights Businesses

Local Context & AppWT's Madison Heights Perspective

Madison Heights is a 30,000-resident inner-ring suburb in southern Oakland County, anchored by the I-75 / I-696 interchange and a dense industrial/commercial corridor along John R Road, Stephenson Highway, and 14 Mile Road. The city historically supported Detroit's automotive supply chain — and still does, with Lear, Magna, and dozens of Tier 2 suppliers operating here — but the economic mix has broadened into logistics, light manufacturing, and budget-friendly retail. Madison Heights is also home to AppWT's flower-essence client Prismatic Flowers, giving us deep insight into the local independent-business landscape. Madison Heights sites tend to need: fast load times for blue-collar audiences on older devices, multilingual support for the city's growing Hispanic and Bangladeshi populations, and direct-response conversion design for trade businesses where the buying decision happens on a phone call within an hour of search.

Industries We Serve in Madison Heights

Madison Heights' economy: automotive supply chain (Tier 2 suppliers, machine shops, tool & die), logistics and warehousing along the John R / Stephenson corridor, independent retail and food service, and a growing wellness/alternative-health community (Prismatic Flowers among them). AppWT's strongest fit: Tier 1-2 websites, Local SEO + GBP optimization, multilingual content add-ons, and AIVO retainers for trade businesses.
