Shelby, officially Shelby Charter Township, is an affluent, fast-growing suburb in Macomb County about 24 miles north of downtown Detroit, drained by the Clinton River. Named for War of 1812 hero and first Kentucky governor Isaac Shelby, it evolved from a 19th-century farming community into an automotive-manufacturing suburb. It is home to the historic Packard Proving Grounds and much of Stony Creek Metropark.
