History of South Gull Lake
- Very little history is recorded. The one dated item is postal: a summer post office named Yorkville operated from 1917 to 1939. That the office ran seasonally rather than year-round is itself a record of how the lakeshore was used in that period. No platting date, founder or naming account is published for any of the three communities.
Landmarks and Places in South Gull Lake
- Gull Lake itself is the organizing feature, and the CDP takes in the area around its southern and eastern shores. The three communities have distinct positions on it: Yorkville sits in the southern part at the outlet of the lake, Gull Lake is at the southeast tip, and Midland Park is on the eastern side. The lake extends west into Richland Township and its northern tip crosses into Barry County, both of which lie outside the CDP boundary. Water leaves the lake at the Yorkville outlet and runs south down Gull Creek to the Kalamazoo River.
