About West Bloomfield Township, Michigan
History of West Bloomfield Township
- West Bloomfield was established in 1833, and most of its population growth has come since the 1960s as residents moved out from the inner-ring Detroit suburbs. Its most recent and most unusual development is the creation of Cass Lake Village in the northern part of the township, at the eastern terminus of Greer Road along Cass Lake and conterminous with the neighbourhood of Zox. The state of Michigan designated the area a village in 2025, and in August 2026 the village charter was approved and a first village board elected, formally creating a municipal corporation to match the state designation. This made Cass Lake Village the newest municipality in Oakland County and in Michigan; the first village incorporated in the county since Beverly Hills in 1958; and the first village incorporated anywhere in Michigan since Lake Isabella in 1998. Westacres, at Keith and Commerce Roads at an elevation of 925 feet, is the township's other named unincorporated community.
