About Wixom, Michigan
Wixom is a small Oakland County city about 30 miles northwest of Detroit that was essentially built by the auto industry: it incorporated in 1957-58, the same time Ford opened its sprawling Wixom Assembly Plant, which for 50 years built Lincolns, the Thunderbird and both generations of the Ford GT supercar. Since the plant's 2007 closure and demolition, the city has rebuilt itself around a diverse manufacturing base that includes Trijicon optics and Discraft, one of the world's leading disc-golf disc makers.
History of Wixom
- The area was settled in 1831 by 20-year-old Alonzo Sibley, who bought roughly 430 acres and gave the crossroads its early name, Sibley's Corners.
- The community was renamed for Willard Clark Wixom, who in 1871 granted a right of way through his property for the Holly, Wayne and Monroe Railway and platted a railroad junction near the Novi and Commerce Township border.

- The plant closed in 2007 and was demolished starting in 2012, prompting the city to diversify.
