Ypsilanti is a Huron River college town in Washtenaw County, roughly seven miles east of Ann Arbor, built around Eastern Michigan University and the walkable 19th-century railroad district known as Depot Town. It carries a Greek name honoring a hero of the Greek War of Independence, a WWII legacy as the home of the Willow Run bomber plant and Rosie the Riveter, and a brick water tower so suggestively shaped that a magazine once crowned it the world's most phallic building.

History of Ypsilanti

• A French-Canadian fur trader established a trading post on the site in 1809.
