History of Austintown

• Austintown Township was founded in 1793 as township 2, range 3 of the Connecticut Western Reserve, bought from the Connecticut Land Company, and was surveyed as a parcel five miles on each side like the Reserve's other townships.
• The name honours Calvin Austin, a Warren resident and Western Reserve judge.
• John McCollum of New Jersey became the first settler in 1794.
