More About Garrettsville

The village was formed from parts of Hiram, Nelson, Freedom and Windham townships in the Connecticut Western Reserve.

John Garrett bought 300 acres in Nelson Township in 1803, the year Ohio became a state.

The Cleveland-Pittsburgh Road was built near his mill in 1806, and a post office opened in 1830.

In the early 1900s the village was a major center for processing maple syrup, much of it canned by Arthur Crane on Windham Street.

Poet Hart Crane, grandson of Arthur Crane, is among the people linked to Garrettsville.
