Hinckley Township in Medina County carries the name of Judge Samuel Hinckley of Massachusetts, who bought it from the Connecticut Land Company in 1795 for about 23 cents an acre. When the township was founded in 1825 and named for him, the judge gave land for two burying grounds and a public square.
