Lakeville in Holmes County was laid out in 1839 near Round Lake and Long, or Bonnet's, Lake. Once the Pittsburgh, Ft. Wayne and Chicago Railroad came through, the town slowly drifted toward Odell's Lake.

History of Lakeville

• Two ice companies cut ice on Odell's Lake, and the railroad hauled as many as four carloads a day to towns as far off as Pittsburgh.
• In its heyday Lakeville was called the Recreation Area of the Midwest, with trains carrying visitors to the water and parks along Odell's Lake.

Landmarks and Places in Lakeville

• Joseph L. DeYarmon House. A house at a rural crossroads southwest of Lakeville, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.
