More About Argyle
Settlers arrived in the 1850s, when the place was known as Pilot Knob or Waintown.
A school opened in 1875, a Baptist church in 1876 and a post office in 1878.
The town took the name Argyle in 1881, when the Texas and Pacific Railroad built through.
Accounts of the name differ: some credit a railroad surveyor naming it for a garden in France, and others point to the Argyll region of Scotland.
