History of Chico
- Once billed itself as the oil capital of Wise County and was a leading producer of crushed stone for road construction, with four large stone processing plants at one time.

J. T. Brown, a newcomer from Chico, California, opened a general store near Dry Creek in the mid-1870s.
A post office opened in 1882, and Rock Island Railroad tracks arrived about ten years later.
The town became a retail center for area cotton farmers.
Peanuts and cantaloupes replaced cotton as the main crops in the 1950s, and Chico incorporated in 1950.
It sits where State Highway 101 meets Farm Road 1810, five miles north of Bridgeport.
Students attend the Chico Independent School District.
