Cibolo takes its name from a word meaning buffalo, and the Comanche and other Native American tribes lived here before European settlers came.
The community began when the Southern Pacific Railroad came through, and on October 9, 1965, residents voted to become an independent township.
It sits on the north side of Cibolo Creek, with Schertz to its north and west and Santa Clara and Marion to its east.
