More About Tiki Island
Tiki Island is largely man-made: developers dug canals in the 1960s and used the fill to raise the land four to ten feet above sea level.
It began as a small fishing camp, grew into a spot for weekend homes and later incorporated as a village.
About 70 percent of its area is water, and its streets carry Polynesian names such as Bora Bora, Kona and Leilani.
The eastern half is zoned to the Texas City Independent School District and the western half to the Hitchcock Independent School District.
