Working in Novi

• The annual Japan Festival, held each October, is the largest Japan festival in the state.
• The Suburban Collection Showplace draws large fan and hobby crowds through events such as Motor City Comic Con.
• Organized as a township in 1832 on land taken from Farmington Township; the name 'Novi' was proposed by resident Dr. J.C. Emery at the suggestion of his wife, who reportedly wanted a shorter name than Farmington.
• The popular legend that Novi is named for the sixth toll gate ('No. VI') or sixth stagecoach stop on the Grand River Road is historically inaccurate: the township was named in 1832 but the toll road was not built until the 1850s.
