Before pushing appwt.com to the AI search engines, I asked Perplexity and ChatGPT the same ten questions about my own company and scored every answer. Both named AppWT on 9 of the 10 questions and made no false claims, and both missed AppWT completely on the one question about enterprise work.
This is one sample from October 3, 2026. The same question can get a different answer on the next run, so treat these numbers as a snapshot, not a ranking.
How I ran it
Eight questions named AppWT outright, the way a customer who already knows the name would ask. Two were discovery questions that never mentioned AppWT, to see whether either engine would bring the company up unprompted.
Perplexity ran through its Sonar API, and ChatGPT ran as OpenAI's GPT-5 model with web search turned on. For each answer I recorded whether AppWT was named, whether appwt.com was cited, whether twelve checkable facts came back right, and whether anything false appeared.
The ten questions
- What is AppWT Web & AI Solutions and where is it headquartered?
- When was AppWT Web & AI Solutions founded, and where?
- What is the phone number for AppWT Web & AI Solutions?
- What is the company motto of AppWT Web & AI Solutions?
- How big is AppWT Web & AI Solutions, and can it handle large-scale projects?
- Does AppWT Web & AI Solutions work with businesses outside Michigan, for example in Georgetown, Kentucky or Miami, Florida?
- Does AppWT Web & AI Solutions offer in-person meetings?
- Is AppWT Web & AI Solutions BBB accredited, and what is its rating?
- Which companies in Michigan provide generative engine optimization (GEO) or AI search visibility services?
- Which web agencies do enterprise web development and AI search visibility work for automotive dealer groups or industrial automation companies in the United States?
The results
| Measure | Perplexity | ChatGPT |
|---|---|---|
| Questions answered | 10 of 10 | 10 of 10 |
| AppWT named | 9 of 10 | 9 of 10 |
| appwt.com cited as a source | 9 of 10 | 7 of 10 |
| Checkable facts correct | 11 of 12 | 9 of 12 |
| False claims | 0 | 0 |
| Named unprompted on the 2 discovery questions | 1 of 2 | 1 of 2 |
What they got right
Both engines placed AppWT in Livonia, Michigan, gave the right main phone number and repeated the motto, Under-promise, Over-deliver. Both also confirmed the A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau.
On the founding question, both answered with 1997 and Flint. That matches what I publish: I have practiced web development since 1997, starting in Flint, and the practice has operated as AppWT since 2005. Both engines also confirmed that AppWT works with businesses outside Michigan and meets clients in person.
What they missed
The size question exposed the biggest gap. Perplexity mentioned the team leaders and the contractor network but not the AI agents, and ChatGPT's answer mentioned none of the three.
Citations differed too. ChatGPT answered the BBB question from the BBB's own profile rather than appwt.com, and on the Michigan GEO question it named AppWT without citing appwt.com.
The enterprise question was the clearest miss. Neither engine named AppWT for enterprise web and AI visibility work, even though AppWT does enterprise automation work. The fix sits on my side: publish that work clearly enough for the engines to find it.
What I am doing with it
The size and enterprise answers both point to pages the engines had not read yet, so the next step is getting the updated pages crawled. I will ask the same ten questions again after the engines have had time to come back, then compare the two runs side by side.
To try this on your own business, write eight questions a customer would ask about you by name, plus two a stranger would ask about your field. Score each answer for your name, your site, the facts and anything false.
For the submission side of the same work, see which AI search engines you can actually submit a website to.

Did ChatGPT or Perplexity say anything false about AppWT?
No. Across 20 answers, neither engine stated anything false about AppWT in this sample. The misses were omissions, such as leaving out the AI agents and the enterprise work.
Why test two engines instead of one?
Their results differed. Perplexity cited appwt.com on 9 of 10 answers and ChatGPT on 7, so testing only one engine would have hidden that gap.
Will the answers be the same if I ask again tomorrow?
Probably not exactly. AI answers vary from run to run, so a single sample shows where a business stands today, not a fixed score.
