Taylor is named for Major General Zachary Taylor, who later became the 12th U.S. President. Taylor Township was organized in 1847 from the western part of Ecorse Township, and residents voted in 1966 to become a city, which was incorporated in 1968. The city covers about 23.6 square miles. Hungry Howie's Pizza started here in the 1970s, the Heritage Park petting farm keeps more than 90 animals, and the Taylor North team won the 2021 Little League World Series.
