About Lincoln Park, Michigan
Lincoln Park is a compact, densely built Downriver suburb about 11 miles southwest of downtown Detroit in Wayne County, forged as a working-class bedroom community for Henry Ford's River Rouge plant. It packs more than 40,000 people into under six square miles, making it one of Michigan's most crowded cities, and its blue-collar roots seeded an outsized rock-and-roll legacy. The banks of its Ecorse River also hold a pivotal moment in frontier history.
History of Lincoln Park
- The Downriver area was home to the Potawatomi; in April 1763 Ottawa war leader Pontiac convened a council along the Ecorse River (today's Council Point Park) to plan an attack on British-held Fort Detroit.
- Neighborhoods were first platted within Ecorse Township around 1906.
- Incorporated as a village in 1921 and as a city in 1925.

The Lincoln Park Economy
- Developed primarily as a residential bedroom community rather than an industrial center in its own right.
