Fremont is the county seat of Sandusky County, Ohio, sitting on the Sandusky River about 35 miles southeast of Toledo. Originally settled as Lower Sandusky, it was renamed in 1849 for explorer and general John C. Fremont. The city was the home of President Rutherford B. Hayes and the site of the War of 1812 Battle of Fort Stephenson.

History of Fremont
